De IJdele Façade
My brother recently received his phd honours. He worked on a research document about the use of irony within the works of Dutch author Harry Mulish (famous for ‘the Discovery of Heaven’, ‘the Assault’ and other famous novels). Mulish even created the ‘irony symbol’; a '3' with a dot underneath, which he used throughout his books. I incorporated this symbol into my illustration, featuring it rising out of his iconic pipe. The illustration captured his mysterious character and I like to think my design was the deciding factor on whether my brother got his phd or not.
